The film event has bestowed its best documentary award upon the doc, directed by Sirous Kaffash.
‘Gelak’ is a feminine story of some young island girls who are not willing to sell their land’s soil for the sake of their art. These young women live on the Hormoz Island, where is famous for its rainbow-colored soil.
The film has previously been screened at the Pune International Film Festival in India, where it succeeded to grab the best cinematography award of the event.
Launched in 2008, the IFF, as the first independent Iranian film festival outside Iran, is an annual event showcasing independent feature and short films from around the world.
The 13th edition of the fest hosted feature, documentary, short and animation movies from Iran, Canada, the US, the UK, South Africa, France, Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden.
The event was held on September 19 -25, 2020.
